<image:caption>Dog training is both a science and a mechanical skill. In this video I show you some of the basic movements to learn to develop these important mechanical skills. Body language is the most important form of communication between the canine and you. Clarity in that communication will lead to trust toward the human. Practice these basic mechanical skills before you implement them in your dog training.</image:caption>

<image:title>Basic Obedience Skills - Transitioning from Luring to Audible Cues With Bite Bonus!</image:title>
<image:caption>In this video I explain the concepts on how to transition from luring to visual cue, to audible cue. I am doing this with the foundation of positions and position transitions. The behaviors in this video are not the end behaviors that I want to see with positions transitions but are the foundation that I need to go to the next step in training. That step is taking the behaviors we have developed in this face to the touch boards and fine tuning them. The touch boards are an important element in training the positions as the dog will learn that he can't move in the positions. (forward, backward, sideways) He can't leave the board basically and needs to have four paws on the board at all times. This face will require good mechanical skill in luring, reward manipulation, reward placement, observation skills and Timing! Timing of the secondary reinforcer is crucial and will play ALMOST the most important element that will determine learning progress. If any of the required skill lack, go practice them without the dog. Keep your training blocks small with multiple sessions and about 5 to 10 repetitions depending on how well your dog performs. You will see that with each dog I keep the training block to about 5 - 8 minutes and within that block I have multiple session with multiple repetitions. The key is that after 2 sessions within that training block you should see progress. If you don't see progress there is something wrong with your training techniques (luring, reward, timing, etc. ) Cancel the training block and go back to the drawing board and try to figure out what went wrong. ( 99.99% on the human side) Watch this video to the end as I added a small bonus. As a reward I allowed my girl Falca to hurt someone..</image:caption>

<image:title>Basic Obedience Skills - Touch Boards in Obedience Training - Fundamental use</image:title>
<image:caption>Touch Boards, an important and useful concept to teach. I use touch pads and boards in almost all of my training. Examples of behaviors I create with them are, Send out, position transitions, Guard for Schutzhund, high jumps for Ring Sports (French, Belgian and Mondio), Recall fronts, Retrieve fronts and many many more. Most trainers move to fast developing new behaviors and setting new criteria. They also don't have a good understanding how the boards work and don't know how to transition of them and fade them out. (thats another video) Sometime I use boxes too, like apple boxes if I have dogs that have issues with transitions. (also another video) Building touch boards is fairly easy, a couple of 2x4 and a sheet of ply wood will do, add some outdoor carpet and voila. Measurements, Take the length of your dog, front feet to butt and add 6 inches, take the width of your dog, wide stance front feet and add 3 inches. This will allow for in-place movement but also narrow enough that when the dog leans side ways he will be off the touch board and therefor not meet the criteria. Many trainers work with wrong size board for their dog. They see one work on youtube with a board and build one exactly like that and then wonder why their pooch moves around. In this video you will see a green novice dog, then a puppy, adolescents in the work, and a finished product doing related behaviors to the touch board work.</image:caption>

<image:title>Basic Obedience Skills - Raised Touch Boards for dog training position in obedience - Why and fundamental use.</image:title>
<image:caption>Touch Boards, an important and useful concept to teach. I use touch pads and boards in almost all of my training. Most trainers move to fast developing new behaviors and setting new criteria. They also don't have a good understanding how the boards work and don't know how to transition of them and fade them out. (thats another video) In this video you will see my puppy Walkiria being exposed to the raised boards for the first time. She adapts to it very fast. The raised boards give new challenges for the dog, when the paw goes off the don't feel solid ground underneath but the paw is dangling in the air. Take your time building up the confidents. After a couple of seconds Walkiria figures it out and understand the new criteria that I have set. We can train positions transitions much easier now without the need that I change my body language while doing so. With touch boards on ground level we need to bend down our knees which alters the body language and is trying and annoying to be honest frankly. Sometime I use boxes too, like apple boxes if I have dogs that have issues with transitions. (also another video) Building touch boards is fairly easy, a couple of 2x4 and a sheet of ply wood will do, add some outdoor carpet and voila.
